Pennsylvania Talent Pipeline ProjectTalent Acquisition and Retention Workshop

IMPERIAL, PA - March 23, 2023: The second of two Talent Acquisition and Retention Workshops focused on Onboarding and Retention was hosted by GE Power Conversion in Imperial, PA, on March 23, 2023.

The PA Talent Pipeline Project Regional Manager Vince Jordan kicked off the session by sharing the current state of the Pittsburgh Flag eco-system and addressing key milestones and events happening over the next three months.

With stakeholders representing defense industrial manufacturers, private industry, and technical colleges, the 1-day training session provided foundational knowledge for Employer and Training Provider partners to begin the process of active onboarding and retention strategies for company new hires, with a focus on the graduating students for Spring of 2023.

The primary focus of the PA Talent Pipeline Project is assisting participating employers in improving the performance of their talent acquisition and retention systems. This training is for and about the employers and gives them the knowledge to understand the current labor market and how they can adjust their internal systems to better benefit new hires and utilize the talent pipelines that meet their needs and align with their company culture.

“The Retention / Onboarding workshop presents an excellent opportunity to discuss alternatives to a company's current stale and outdated onboarding ritual. All too often, we continue to do things only because it was ‘always done that way.’ Retention is contingent upon many factors as a candidate moves through the hiring process. Adopting strategies presented at this workshop helps an organization provide the new employee with a positive experience from day 1. It also supports the company's culture in which the new hire will understand how important their respective role contributes to the success of the organization. I look forward to working with the [Talent Pipeline Project] team in enhancing our current onboarding experience.”  Helmut Kraus, Director of Human Resources, Flowline Division- Ezeflow Inc.

In attendance were representatives from 6 employers and 1 Training Provider:

  • Employer Partners: GE Power Conversion, HOLTEC, Orrvilon Inc, Schroeder Industries, Flowline/Ezeflow Inc., Powerex (Cohort 2 Employer)

  • Training Provider Partners: Midland Innovation and Technology Center (Cohort 2 Training Provider)
